NASA is using the principles of Open Innovation to expand its capabilities to achieve its key goals more efficiently and cost effectively. Through its Innovative Partnerships Program (IPP), NASA manages Open Innovation partnerships in a number of locations. In this article, the author, who heads the IPP Office at Goddard Space Flight Center (Goddard), explains how these “Infusion Partnerships” work, using as an illustration a real-life partnership NASA embarked on with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in the field of robotics.
