8am: Opening keynote - Marshall Brain
Marshall Brain is a well-known innovator, having started three successful businesses including the website and PBS series, HowStuffWorks.com.  He is the author of more than a dozen books and has given hundreds of radio and television interviews, and is the host of the National Geographic show “Factory Floor with Marshall Brain“.  He is a Cary, NC native.  Read his bio at http://marshallbrain.com

9:15am: Michelin’s Tweel – a Radical Innovation Story, Michael Rubel
“Major revolutions in mobility may come along only once in a hundred years,” said Terry Gettys, president of Michelin Americas Research and Development Center in Greenville, S.C.  With an R&D budget equivalent to more than 4% of the Group’s turnover and 6,000 people worldwide, Michelin is no stranger to innovation.  Yet even in such fertile grounds, disruptive innovation faces challenges.  From breakthrough concept to field tested prototype and market opportunity validation, Michael Rubel will share with us his journey and challenges with Michelin’s fascinating Tweel technology.

11:00am: Customer and User Insights Panel – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
This session will discuss best practices in customer and user research in a candid, open format, drawing on our panel members’ extensive marketing research, innovation management, and product management experiences.

1:00pm: Innovation Strategies and Process Panel – Organizing for Innovation Success
In this session we’ll consider a purposeful approach to innovation success, linking innovation to corporate strategy and setting out an intentional innovation process.

2:00pm: Innovation and Intellectual Property Panel – The Value of an Idea
This session will review the opportunities and challenges of identifying and protecting your best ideas, and offer insights and advice on different methods of protecting your ideas and working with others on your ideas.

3:20pm: Innovation Leadership and Culture Introduction – David Magellan Horth, Center for Creative Leadership
David Magellan Horth is a Senior Enterprise Associate at the Center for Creative Leadership.  David  is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Creative Education Foundation, and the co-author of The Leader’s Edge: Six Creative Competencies for Navigating Complex Challenges (2002).

3:50pm: Innovation Leadership and Culture Panel – Enablers and Barriers
This session will consider the significant cultural barriers and enablers for innovation and how your organization can overcome those challenges through leadership and changes in corporate culture.

4:50pm: Closing remarks – Al Delia, NC Innovation Council
Al is the Chair of North Carolina’s first Innovation Council and a senior adviser to Governor Purdue.  His mission is to coordinate public and private investment to promote innovation, help move ideas faster from the lab to the marketplace and improve the collaboration between business, academia and government.
