Launching a new product is like sailing into a storm
Michael Rubel, Michelin. www.michelin.com
“Major revolutions in mobility may come along only once in a hundred years,” said Terry Gettys, president of Michelin Americas Research and Development Center in Greenville, S.C. With an R&D budget equivalent to more than 4% of the Group’s turnover and 6,000 people worldwide, Michelin is no stranger to innovation. Yet even in such fertile grounds, disruptive innovation faces challenges. From breakthrough concept to field tested prototype and market opportunity validation, Michael Rubel will share with us his journey and challenges with Michelin’s fascinating Tweel technology.
Michael Rubel has a wide range of experience as an entrepreneur, corporate business manager, non-profit leader and military officer. In his current position with Michelin North America he is responsible for developing corporate strategy in emerging mobility markets and leading a project team commercializing “Tweel,” a revolutionary non-pneumatic tire. Prior to this, he worked for Michelin’s internal consulting group, where he created a process for developing innovation and he also served as a sourcing manager for consulting, financial and internet services.
